Personal Experience - 5/18/2017
I have multiple friends and fraternity brothers who are from Alma and the area around it, that does not include Fort Smith. I am amazed at how well kept these people and their families are, and I love the school as I had a cousin go through school there and have heard her experience.However, I have also traveled through Alma plenty of times as I travel between Little Rock and Fayetteville fairly often. Anytime I have stopped in Alma for food, fellowship, or gas, i tend to see people and have experiences that I would rather not go through and see or experience again. This repeated series of awkward and sometimes offensive actions, including one man throwing a full gatorade bottle at a woman leaving the car to go inside, has led me to believe that the ones I have personal ties with tend to be more on the outskirts of town. Read More

These churches tend to be independent in operation while possibly belonging, sometimes loosely, to local or national conventions. Local autonomy is important.
Church of Christ in various expression is probably next. Then there are various strains of the more liturgical churches such as Methodist, Episcopal, Christian, and Catholic. There are also assemblies of Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, and 7th day Adventists. Though there are none in Alma, there are congregations of Islamic and Jewish religions in Fort Smith.
