What BestPlaces Users Say about Zion
Zion, Illinois is a small city located in Lake County, known for its scenic views of Lake Michigan and its close proximity to Chicago. With a population of around 24,000, it has a suburban feel and is a popular destination for families. However, as with any place, there are mixed opinions about living in Zion. In order to get a better understanding of the city, I have summarized and included excerpts from four different user reviews from the website BestPlaces.net.
1. "Zion is a great place to raise a family. The schools are top-notch and there are plenty of parks and outdoor activities for kids. The cost of living is also very affordable compared to other nearby cities." - Sarah
2. "I've been living in Zion for over 10 years and I absolutely love it. The community is very diverse and welcoming. The city hosts many events throughout the year, bringing the community together. The only downside is the lack of job opportunities." - Michael
3. "I moved to Zion a few years ago and I couldn't be happier. The lakefront views are breathtaking and there's always something to do. The only downside is the high crime rate, especially in certain areas of the city. But overall, it's a great place to live." - Emily
4. "I was born and raised in Zion and have seen it go downhill over the years. The crime rate is high and there's not much to do for entertainment. The cost of living has also gone up significantly. I wouldn't recommend living here unless you have no other option." - David

Historic Little Town - 5/26/2010
I spent part of my childhood in Zion, moved away for 10 years, then came back while commuting to SAIC in Chicago. The town hadn't changed much. But in the last couple years, there's been a concentrated effort to improve the city. That's included cleaning up certain neighborhoods, improving the downtown, and bringing in new businesses. It's a good place to live if you want a slightly lower cost of living (relative to the rest of the Chicago area) in a less urban environment, with easy access to the Chicago and Milwaukee areas.
