Plainfield pedestrian and bike friendly - 2/27/2019
I've lived in Plainfield 3 years now and have lived in the Indianapolis metro area since 1998. Here are the major pluses I found with this town.
- Pedestrian and bike friendly: Plainfield is the most pedestrian and bike friendly town outside of Indy and Carmel. Unlike Avon, Fishers, Brownsburg and Greenwood the town has a vast network of sidewalks and bike paths connecting every part of town without getting run over by a car. Notice how US 40 has miles of sidewalk on both sides non stop connected to the trails, schools and shopping while US 36 does not. Safer for families (especially kids, walking to work etc)
- Closer to airport: The entrance to the Indy airport is literally at the door step of Plainfield. Outside of Indy much closer and convenient than Carmel, Fishers or any other town in the metro area. Better access for airline travelers and less traffic...save more time.
Shopping: One word Metropolis (currently Shops at Perry

It's okay. - 8/9/2017
I moved my family (husband and kids) back to IN several years ago to be closer to family. After 6 (7? - I've lost track) years, we are ready to move on. We chose Plainfield for several reasons, the first being to avoid the traffic and overcrowding of the Northeast side (Fishers/Noblesville) where everyone else seems to choose to live. It's hard for me to describe exactly how I feel about this place to I just made a pros and cons list:
Pros:
1. The town rec center is affordable and offers great classes, Splash Island, child care, gym etc. Well worth the cost.
2. Great library with good community programs.
3. Excellent schools (my kids have had some AMAZING teachers).
4. It takes us about 20 minutes to get to downtown Indy - convenient access to 70 (easy commute to Eli Lilly and IUPUI).
5. Community is very focused on families. Tons of rec sports, music, art classes, community events, farmer's market etc. that are great for families.
6.

Great place for family - 7/12/2006
I moved to Plainfield several years ago, and am really impressed by the focus on families, recreation, and values. The town has built a recreation complex that includes a large indoor/outdoor waterpark, basketball courts, and fitness center that is less expensive for a family membership than every much smaller private gym I've seen; the town has extensive walking/biking trails, many parks, and a library that is top notch for a small community.
The one drawback is the housing market - homes are cheap, but can be difficult to sell due to the lack of growth in the Indianapolis
