Just ok - 4/13/2010
I have been in Michigan all my life. I was born in Detroit and moved to Ypsilanti to raise my family. Ypsi is about 35 minutes outside of Detroit and it's nice to raise kids. The school system is good (better than Detroit in my book) although the cost to live is more expensive than Detroit, but less expensive than neighboring Ann Arbor because of the University. If you are age "30-something" and african american, nightlife is nonexistant in Ypsi. Most of Detroit's nightlife is geared towards the younger crowd. Nothing really happening in Ypsi or any city nearby.

Crime, crime everywhere - 8/2/2008
Ypsilanti appears to be a safe college town, but upon closer look it is evident that it is a crime-ridden city. Be safe, never travel alone during the night or early hours of the morning! And be sure your car is in plain view from where you are

Ypsi is stuck and does'nt know how to pick itself - 6/30/2007
I was born and raised in good ole' Ypsitucky/ or/Little Detroit, depending on what mood you're in.
My brother still lives here. Why?? Don't know. I believe that it is for sentimental reasons, that I will not go into here.
Ypsi was a great place when I was a child about oh....35 yrs. ago. The whole downtown was full of shopping stores, gift stores etc... It was great. We could walk to the Dairy Queen downtown all by ourselves without a care in the world. I can't say that today I would let my children do the same.
I was up there in June of 2006 and was just saddened at the cost of homes and how the town seemed to have been stuck in a time warp. It was the first time I had visited in 10 years, and little had changed. Crime is at an 8 and 7 there, according to this web-site, and I was a little shocked it wasn't higher, considering what I saw walking around downtown. Hookers are the only ones that feel safe here I think walking those streets.

Possible Relocation - 8/27/2006
My husband and I may be moving from central Florida to Michigan in the very
near future. He may be working in Ann Arbor, MI. I found Ypsilanti has more
affortable housing than Ann Arbor than the other surrounding communties. Can
you tell me about the general quality of life in this area. We are in our early
50's, no children and 2 little dogs. I wish to groom small dogs from my home.
Wonder if that is allowed. I know I can check with the zoning board on that.
Are there places to shop, movie theaters in Ypsilanti ? How are the winters and the amount of snowfall ?
Thank you,
