safe/low violent crime-property crimes as everywhere.Nice parks in town with frequent concerts.Symphony orchestra,ballet-both unusual for small towns. Most
neighborhoods are very nice with wide range of prices.Ashland University, students

Bland, boring, cliquish, no culture and TOO remote - 12/6/2019
I moved here a little under two years ago for personal reasons and for my child to have a decent school to go to. I have found the people very unwelcoming and cliquish, no culture or nightlife, shopping is Wal-Mart or extremely overpriced boutique(s) in the "downtown" area. Every time I patronize and establishment here I get a vibe from people that is very off-putting. Small town mentality is definitely alive and well here.
The main issue I have is job opportunities. A previous poster mentioned driving well over an hour to either Cleveland or Columbus for work. It is OVER an hour to those places and if you happen to get an interview it could be farther than that. No way could I do that every day. If you are looking for work in either Wooster/ Mansfield, opportunities are scarce and it is the same vibe/ mentality in those places as well. There are Amish here, who travel in their buggies on a main thoroughfares. When I see them on 42, they are sometimes hard to see because

Life in Ashland,Ohio - 7/20/2010
I have lived in here all my life. Ashland is a great place to raise a family. There are lots of parks and activities for families to enjoy. It is also a very safe community with lots of old fashioned values. Major cities are only a short drive away. The down sides to living here are: the weather! High humidity in the summer and loong, cloudy winters! Not many sunny days to enjoy here! We are greatly affected by Lake Erie-lake effect snow, etc. Also, there are not many perks for adults. Not many restaurants-besides Mom & Pop joints or retail stores-unless you like WalMart! It has been a nice place to live, but currently I'm checking out other options. The economy here has really suffered. All the industry has left this town and surrounding areas. Not much left but the Amish!

Unemployment - 3/4/2008
Nice area, but winters are too long! Unemployment is huge here, disregard the 5%-6% rate you here, what the government doesn't tell you is how many people aren't getting unemployment because they ran out their time limit and are still unemployed! This statistic is conveniently

Ashland is a step back in time - 1/1/2007
Quite little town, not alot of retail shopping available. Many major highways snake their ways though our county. Easily 20 mins to a larger city. Low crime, most seem to be crimes of property. Lacking in jobs, was industrial town (and we know where that went!) City politician are trying with much efforts to bring business to Ashland, with I-71 east of town, putting Ashland 1 hour from cleveland or columbus and their airports! Seems to be bedroom community at this time. A town where folks who see you and know you will stop and

Ashland a gem of a town - 9/5/2006
This is a great smaller city to raise a family. The cost of living is low, as well as housing prices and crime rates. You are not that far from major cities which are Cleveland and Columbus. Some of the best hospitals in the world are a little over an hour away. There is plenty of things to do including a state park with hiking, camping, fishing and a river for canoeing. Also a good size lake nearby for boating and recreation. Plenty of festivals, professional sporting events and museums only a short drive away as well. We have four seasons which give you plenty of enjoyment year round. Ashland University in the heart of the city is a great addition for your entertainment too, with its many activites that you can enjoy. You are close to major highways that let you travel with ease.If you are looking for quality of life, Ashland is the place for
