What BestPlaces Users Say about Sun Prairie

Sun Prairie, Wisconsin is a small city located just outside of Madison. With a population of around 35,000, it offers a suburban feel with easy access to the amenities of a larger city. The city is known for its excellent school district and friendly community atmosphere. However, like any place, there are always mixed opinions on what it's like to live there. Let's take a look at what some users have to say about their experiences in Sun Prairie.

- According to Jenny S., "Sun Prairie is a great place for families with kids. The schools are top-notch and there are plenty of parks and community events for families to enjoy." She goes on to mention the friendly community and low crime rates, making it a safe and welcoming place to raise a family.

- On the other hand, John D. says, "I've lived in Sun Prairie my whole life and it's just too small for me. There's not much to do and the nightlife is pretty much non-existent." He also mentions the lack of job opportunities in the area, which may be a downside for young professionals looking to advance in their careers.

- Mary K. has a different perspective, stating, "I moved to Sun Prairie for the affordable cost of living and I have not been disappointed. The housing market here is great and I have been able to save a lot of money. Plus, I love the small-town feel and sense of community here."

- However, Emily R. mentions, "While Sun Prairie may be affordable, the property taxes are ridiculously high. It's getting harder and harder for me to afford living here and I'm considering moving out of the city." This is a common concern among residents, as the property taxes in Sun Prairie are some of the highest in the state.

Overall, it seems that Sun Prairie is a great place to live for families who value a safe and friendly community. However, for young professionals and those looking for a more vibrant nightlife, it may not be the ideal location. The affordable cost of living is a major draw, but the high property taxes may pose a financial challenge for some. As with any city, it's important to weigh the pros and cons and decide what is most important for your personal lifestyle.

Sun Prairie - 1/27/2011
Crime is very low, I seldom feel like I have to lock my car or even my house. The schools here are pretty good, and have no tolerance for bullies (so if you have any, stay away). Housing prices aren't quite as low as I'd like, but they're not too out of line either. Taxes are high, and have also recently increased. They're less if you can avoid living within city limits. It's been a very good place to raise my kids. Many "non-walmart-quality" purchases will need to be done somewhere in Madison unfortunately (5 miles to the east side & mall). And more & more businesses are leaving the east side for the west. It gets very, very cold here but summers are for the most part very nice - not too humid (by muggy east coast standards, at least) and very hot temps are unusual. I've seen much worse snow in Michigan & New York state. Read More

Sun Prairie Taxes - 11/14/2010
If you add the property taxes on to the cost of living. Sun Prairie is a very expensive place to live. My property taxes on my 300,000 are almost 7000.00 per year. I recently moved from Colorado where my property taxes on a more expensive home were only 2400.00 per year. Water for Sun Prairie is not that much but when you add the sewage charge, my water bill is triple the cost for Colorado. Read More
