We traveled the entire east and west coasts of Florida and the entire east coast of Georgia. We LOVED St. Marys GA. but decided on Amelia Island... Mainly because AI has amazing beaches...Basically all beach. The people are great, the climate is amazing. Nights are actually warmer than Orlando due to the Ocean effect. It may get below 32 degrees (on the Island) once in a decade. I can grow almost anything from Citrus to Any Palm and Banana, The ocean breeze keeps us "cooler" than most areas in the summer. the negative is the extremely high cost to live here. From utilities, food, but most of all housing and property taxes. Housing cost are extremely high. and property taxes are some of the highest in Florida. The high taxes are because Amelia Island residents want to Island to look beautiful. that costs dollars. On the main land Yulee is developing quickly, and housing is higher that other areas of Florida. It a Southern culture, which means people are Happy and friendly. We are loving every minute here.
