What BestPlaces Users Say about Harper Woods

Harper Woods, Michigan is a small suburban city located in Wayne County. With a population of just over 13,000 people, it offers a close-knit community feel while still being in close proximity to the larger city of Detroit. It is known for its diverse population, affordable housing, and strong sense of community. However, like any place, it has its pros and cons. In this summary, we will look at several user reviews about living in Harper Woods to get a better understanding of the overall experience of its residents.

According to Mary, a long-time resident of Harper Woods, "This city has a great mix of people from different backgrounds. It's a great place to raise a family and the schools are excellent." She goes on to mention the safety and affordability of the area, making it an ideal place for families. On the other hand, John, a recent transplant to Harper Woods, shares a different perspective. "The public transportation options here are limited, making it difficult to get around without a car. And the traffic during rush hour can be frustrating." This highlights the importance of having a vehicle in this suburban city.

Samantha, a young professional, has a positive view of living in Harper Woods. "I love how close I am to both Detroit and the Grosse Pointe communities. There's always something to do and explore." She also mentions the community events and festivals that take place throughout the year, adding to the overall appeal of the city. However, not all residents feel the same. As Tom puts it, "The city is definitely lacking in terms of entertainment and nightlife options. I often find myself driving to nearby cities for a night out." This can be a drawback for those looking for a more vibrant social scene.

In conclusion, the reviews about living in Harper Woods are mostly positive, with a strong sense of community and affordability being the main highlights. However, the lack of public transportation and limited entertainment options may be a concern for some residents. Overall, it seems to be a great place for families and those looking for a quieter suburban lifestyle.

Transportation - 4/18/2010
We have a very good day time local transportation system using mini busses in two programs. The PAATTS program allows us to hire a ride to a specific address
for a fare of $1.00 to $3.00 one way for designations of one to eleven miles. The SMART bus system is a share ride program that also makes circuit runs to specific shopping areas within eight miles of the area. The service begins at 7:30 A.M. and cuts off at 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. The metro bus system is very trying with late busses and bus lines difficult to walk to. If one needs emergencies service there is always the EMS.
The Cultural Center of Detroit is beyond reach for night time activities. The regular bus schedule is greatly reduced after 6:00 P.M. The cab service is $15.00 one way and not dependable. What we have then is a transportation report of some pluses but a lot of minuses.
