What BestPlaces Users Say about Livonia

Livonia, Michigan is a suburban city located in the northwest Detroit metropolitan area. It is known for its highly-rated public schools, low crime rates, and family-friendly atmosphere. With a population of over 93,000, Livonia offers a diverse community with numerous parks, restaurants, and shopping options. However, like any place, it has its pros and cons. Let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net to gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Livonia.

According to user "Andrea," Livonia is a great place to raise a family. She says, "I have lived in Livonia for 8 years and I absolutely love it! It's a very safe and friendly community with excellent schools." Another user, "Kevin," agrees, saying, "I grew up in Livonia and it's a great city. Safe, clean, and friendly people." These reviews highlight the city's family-friendly atmosphere and reputation for safety and cleanliness.

However, not all reviews are glowing. User "Eric" shares a different perspective, stating, "Livonia can be a little dull and there's not much to do here. It's more of a place for families than young adults." Another user, "Samantha," echoes this sentiment, saying, "I moved to Livonia for work and it's just alright. It's not the most exciting place, but it's safe and has good schools." These reviews suggest that while Livonia may be a great place for families, it may not offer as much for young adults or those looking for a more vibrant nightlife.

Overall, the majority of user reviews on BestPlaces.net indicate that Livonia is a desirable place to live, especially for families. The city's reputation for safety, good schools, and a friendly community is consistently mentioned. However, some reviewers do point out that it may not offer as much for young adults or those seeking more excitement. As with any location, it ultimately depends on personal preferences and priorities.

Great City - 9/10/2008
I lived in Livonia most of my life and it's a pretty decent city! The schools are good, there are plenty of parks. There are 3 public pools, a couple of golf courses and the roads are improving. The only thing I didn't like was going to Stevenson with all the spoiled, rich kids. Thats the odd thing about Livonia.. if you start off in the southeast corner (by Westland and Redford) homes are around 150,000-200,000 if you go northwest through the city the homes go up to 500,000 in that corner of the city. One the subject of housing with the economy struggling a bit homes are going up for rent now and renters are coming from Detroit.

Overall, the city is great! Nice houses, tons of parks and recreation opportunities for kids of all ages. Not to mention the new state-of-the-art Recreation center, outdoor rollar hockey rink and ballparks abundant. The high schools all have special things about them. Churchill has a creative and performing arts program, Stevenson has a global Read More

Decent, actually - 6/25/2006
I moved to Livonia about six years ago, and I thought I would hate it. To my surprise, I actually really like it here.
Livonia is pretty much middle class, and it is an affordable place to live. There are cheaper homes and then there are more expensive homes on the west side of Livonia off of Six and Seven Mile Roads. There is a definite division, but everyone is friendly and happy.
As for the schools, they are great. This year however, they are starting a new program where 5th and 6th graders have their own school. This is making many parents upset and they are trying to recall the school board. Nevertheless, it is a peaceful protest and the schools really are awesome. The teachers are great and the career-tech program in the high schools is fabulous.
As for things to do, Livonia isn't bursting at the seams, but it is decent. There is the Laurel Park Mall, which only has two anchor stores, but it also has a few popular stores that teenagers like. We have two movie Read More

What a great city for settling down! - 1/25/2006
We just moved to Livonia from Oak Park and it is night and day! We were getting tired of the hustle and bustle as we were a just a mile from Ferndale and Royal Oak before. We've settled in Livonia. It's quiet, family oriented, friendly and for a larger city has a bit of a small town feel. I really love it. The only criticism that I would give to Livonia is that there really isn't much culture and the restaurants are nowhere near as good as they were in Royal Oak and Ferndale. But if you like quiet and family...this is the place to Read More
