As a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, Oak Park is a small but diverse city with a population of just over 29,000. It is known for its affordable housing and close-knit community, making it a popular choice for families and young professionals. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. To get a better understanding of what living in Oak Park is like, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

Glorified Ghetto - 9/12/2021
I've lived in Oak Park for 5 years and have dreamt of escape since year one. This town is an absolute s**thole and the current aims at gentrification are failing. They keep raising market rates but the quality of the homes is total garbage. Awful infrastructure - the power goes out if you sneeze too hard and the streets flood with every rainfall. The cost of water/sewage is astronomical for some unknown reason, and property taxes/rental rates just keep going up. Unfortunately, the entire county is overpriced, so good luck finding a average sized place here under $1,000 a month or $300k that is actually inhabitable. Slumlords galore! Tiny houses with massive, uncontrollable overgrowth, RATS and mold. You'll also have a plumber on speed dial. Racing SUVs down residential streets, dogs barking 24/7, people yelling at each other all the time... Oh, and if you think it's inclusive, think again. It truly depends on the color of your skin - if it's not brown or black, you're not welcome

Going down hill - 1/25/2006
We lived in Oak Park for 6 years. In that time it went from an up-and-coming neighborhood like Ferndale or Royal Oak to a pit. This place has gone so down hill in the last few years that we just had to get out. We were thankful to get some kind of return on our house. If we had waited any longer I think we would have lost money. I agree with the other person - don't move

don't move here - 1/1/2006
boring city that has absolutely pathetic job growth, very few residents actually work in Oak Park because it is a small city that most businesses see as an unattractive area, in fact you are more likely to see buildings being razed. This is a dying city unlike the suburbs north of interstate 696 that seem to suffer from
