Shelby bites! - 10/28/2008
Yes, there is shopping available, but you have to drive 1 1/2 hours to Great Falls, with very poor shopping for it's size, or 2 1/2 hours over a mountain pass (almost never a good idea between October and April/May) to Kalispell.
The prison on the edge of town is a decent employer (my husband works there), but it sure brings a bad element to this town. There are cops in my neighborhood breaking something up at least 5 times/week! Groceries are more expensive than I've seen anywhere elsewhere outside of a gas station. The school system has very low standards and the roads are steep hills over 1/2 the town, and torn up all over town. Housing is cheap, but the buildings are junk; probably a bunch of them should be condemned as unsafe or substandard housing, but they just keep letting it go. The people here seem nice at first, but that's only as long as you agree with everything they say. If you don't, they will hold a grudge against you for a long, long time. We have only been
