A little town with big problems - 5/20/2020
I have lived in West Milford for 7 years, for me it has been a mixed bag. The area is geographically quite beautiful-- the town is 96 square miles and most of it is forest and lakes, which is also its downfall when i comes to town finances and services: high salaries and (in my opinion) bloated payrolls but very few ratables to help defray property taxes because most of the land area is protected watershed. Property taxes are higher than for surrounding areas and the town has very little appetite to control costs. There have been many grand ideas and promises to help our town to grow but nobody has been able or willing to execute. As a result I find myself going to neighboring towns for my shopping and services because frankly we have no variety, very uneven quality, and many things one would want or need simply can't be found
