Skiatook on the rise. - 9/19/2020
My wife and I moved to Skiatook 4 years ago because I like to fish the nearby lake. While there are still some of the small town Oklahoma issues, the drug problem that plauged much of rural OK for years has mostly been controlled here these days.
There is a fairly new Casino at the west end of town, and several new housing developments at the east end and around the lake. There are a dozen pretty good restuarants, even a couple exceptional ones, a new central city park that features a splash pad, playground, pond, pavilion and covered seating, A 15 mile walking/biking trail that leads from Skiatook to OSU in Tulsa, two sports complexes, and of course, Skiatook Lake.
It's a 15 min drive to downtown Tulsa, and 15 mins to the city of Owasso which has about any kind of shopping you could ask for.
Housing and utility costs are low, all utilities except gas are through the city.
Skiatook has become a magnet for people looking for a nice affordable place close enough

Beautiful lake; Downgrading community. - 7/18/2012
I moved to Skiatook when I was six years old. It wasn't a bad little town in 1996. However, it is slowly going downhill. Although it does have a beautiful lake, with gorgeous lake-view housing, the town itself lacks in many areas. It is definitely a high-school party town with drug abusers in every neighborhood. It has a few restaurants, a Wal-Mart, several gas stations, decent schools, and countless churches of various religions. After moving away from that town, I don't miss it. It used to be a nice place to raise a family, but now? Probably

I was a teenager here and then raised my kids here....this town has become infested with meth,...meth labs....and low quality people.....the high school seems to promote with homosexuality is the new "in" thing...with students making sex videos of themselves and passing it around for all to see....this certainly is not the town I grew up

the prettiest town we could afford - 3/26/2008
The lake here is beautiful- the cleanest in the extended Tulsa metro area. The town is rather short on amenities, but the people are very nice. There is a super Walmart here and an eye doctor, a real estate office, an O'Reilly's auto parts store, a handful of restaurants, a couple of doctor's offices, and probably about one or two of anything you might need. This is certainly not big city living, but Tulsa is about 45 minutes away if you need anything. We live up on a hill overlooking the lake and the valley. It is covered with tough oak trees and little other vegetation. We do have the most remarkable sunrises and just breath-taking sunsets. The sky at night is ablaze with stars. Skiatook is the nicest town we could afford to live in close to my husband's work place. If you don't mind ice storms and tornadoes, and you like rural and have a good rough-water boat, Skiatook is the place for
