It's a Cow Town - 6/21/2008
The cattle outnumber the area's population. They even have a "cute cow" contest during the county fair. The cheese factories and affiliated farmers basically own the economy. The first time I drove into town I passed fields being irrigated with GREEN water. What the...?? Turns out it's recycled cow waste. They store the waste in underground tanks where it ferments and they fertilize the cow pastures with it to make the fields grow. The smell is sick!! I was nauseated the whole 6 months I lived there. The whole town often smells like sour fermented manure. OMG, air quality 55? I don't think so. It reeks of rank methane. Ewww. You will die laughing when you walk into the grocery store and see on the walls painted murals of ... cows' behinds.
