Small town, not much here - 4/24/2015
I've been living in Westerly my entire life, and it's not the greatest place. The only plus is the beaches are 10 minutes away, but that doesn't do you any good in the winter. The summers here are not bad, we have a lot of trees and all. There are like 3 summer events.
But the rest of the year is HORRIBLE. The town is just dead. And it gets SO cold! No major restaurants besides Applebees, 99, McDonalds, BK, Subway, and Dominos. The employment rate sucks, and it's EXPENSIVE to live here. The older people are nice but everyone else is eh. Not so much rude, just very reserved. It's very hard to make friends here or develop any kind of social life. There's a couple small bars, but they are very poor and filled with druggies.
The town is just too small. We have a movie theatre and a mediocre bowling alley and that's it. Don't expect to have fun here.

Nice enough yet unfriendly - 9/26/2012
Originally from the NorthWest, where I thought people were rude, and I've traveled a bit and lived in the south west as well. After living her for three years, I can say with confidence that it is a pretty town, with some nice features like the small town atmosphere. However if you are looking to meet people and make friends or even just have a limited social life, dont expect to have it here unless you are from the area originally. Locals are polite enough but really dont welcome outsiders. And forget about getting good customer service while your here because it really hardly ever actually occurs. I think people here are just used to loyal customers and doing the bare minimum of the job they are hired for, but not really out to make an impression or get new clients. If you're looking for a service or even just good old fashioned hospitality it doesnt exists here. You will learn to do it yourself, and bug the heck out of businesses if you want something done. Otherwise, if

Westerly RI - 9/17/2007
I grew up in this town, but left for cities (Boston, San Francisco, London) 23 years ago. I'm living here again, and beginning to appreciate this small town more than I did back then.
Westerly has a significant Italian-American Catholic population, has good beaches, and is a great place to be in the summertime. It does not yet have Starbucks and other large higher end coffee chains; this is the land of Dunkin' Donuts and Tim Hortons. Outside of the summer, it is a quiet place with limited nightlife. For those with families, it has the feel of somewhere

About Westerly - 3/3/2007
Westerly is a cute, quaint little old New England town. I am from the midwest originally and really like living here. It's also beautiful being so close to the ocean.
People are VERY friendly and pleasant. This is a very Catholic and Italian town, though, and it can be a bit hard to fit in if you're not either (or both) of those things. Also, (I'm guessing because of the religion thing) it's quite socially conservative which is the only thing that I can't handle. That, and the high cost of living, but you'll find that anywhere in New England.
A few great restaurants, adorable shops and a couple good grocery stores (McQuades and Sandy's Market). Oh, and summer is a mess with vacationing folks who can't drive and kids getting drunk and driving around on their way to and from the
