What BestPlaces Users Say about Orangeburg
Located in central South Carolina, Orangeburg is a small city known for its quiet, suburban atmosphere and abundance of recreational activities. With a population of just over 13,000, Orangeburg offers a close-knit community feel and a lower cost of living compared to other cities in the state. However, like any place, there are pros and cons to living in Orangeburg. Here's what some users have to say about their experiences living in this particular place.
1. According to John from Minneapolis, "Orangeburg is a charming small town with friendly people and a strong sense of community. The cost of living is very affordable, and there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. However, the job market is limited, so it may be difficult to find employment opportunities."
2. On the other hand, Sarah from Nashville has a different perspective, stating that "Orangeburg is a bit too quiet for my taste. There isn't much to do here, and the lack of diversity can be stifling. I also find the cost of living to be higher than expected for a smaller city."
3. Diane from Washington, D.C. shares a positive experience, saying "I moved to Orangeburg for retirement, and it has been a great decision. The pace of life is slow, and the people are incredibly welcoming. I've made some great friends here and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. It's also a great place for outdoor enthusiasts."
4. However, not all reviews are favorable. As Angela from Charlotte points out, "While Orangeburg may have a low cost of living, the quality of life is lacking. The crime rate is high, and the schools are not the best. I wouldn't recommend raising a family here." Overall, it seems that Orangeburg's small town charm and affordable living may appeal to some, but others may find it too quiet or lacking in certain areas.

Transplant from up north - 5/6/2020
I moved to Orangeburg 7 months ago from up north and have mostly learned/adapted to enjoy it. I’ll admit I was worried about the crime statistics, but there are very nice parts of town, just like anywhere else. Locals I’ve interacted with are all very nice, but they will warn you about going out after dark and avoiding trouble. There are major cultural differences at times. I feel like it’s mostly an population here. Golfing is big. Weather is totally amazing all winter and spring compared to living in Pennsylvania. Beautiful, long blooming season. The summers are very hot, but that’s why I have a pool! 3 star rating is also due to the town only having a few nice restaurants, no major event centers, no bowling or movie theater, nothing very classy, service is typically slow and attitudes may be shamelessly rude (in some cases- maybe 50%). Have a job lined up because industry is lacking, though there are some factory type companies around. Great barbecue here (mustard based). Some new

Not a place to start life or to make home. - 5/25/2006
Orangeburg is a struggling small town. I have been here for the past 4 years BUT, only because of me attending college. I see the people that are here are settled; meaning they either went to one of the colleges and got stuck here,or they have lived here since birth and they satisfied. With little to no jobs, no opportunity for advancement, and the mind set that industrial plants are the only places where humans are suppose to work.My advice;if you are thinking about moving here, then keep on moving up the road. This is not the place to be unless, you would like to experience the Largest Mall in South Carolina. No! but, all jokes aside don't do it,it's a
