What BestPlaces Users Say about Weslaco

Weslaco, Texas is a small city located in the southern region of the state. With a population of just over 40,000, it offers a tight-knit community feel with plenty of charming local shops and restaurants. However, it also has its share of challenges, such as a high cost of living and hot, humid summers. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in this place, I have summarized multiple user reviews from the website BestPlaces.net.

One user, named Sarah, describes Weslaco as "a safe and welcoming community with a small-town feel." She goes on to say that there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, such as hiking and biking trails. Another user, John, mentions the city's strong economy and job opportunities, stating that "employment is plentiful and the cost of living is reasonable." However, not all reviews are positive. Maria mentions the harsh weather, saying, "the summers here are brutal and the humidity is intense." She also mentions the lack of diversity in the community. On the other hand, another user named Mark praises the city's cultural diversity, saying, "Weslaco has a great mix of different cultures, which makes it a vibrant and interesting place to live." Despite some challenges, it seems that many residents enjoy the close-knit community and economic opportunities that Weslaco has to offer.

We wouldn't do it again. - 8/19/2021
My wife and I bought into a resort here. Food prices are reasonable, and winters are mild. Aside from that, this place is a geographic nothing-burger. Aside from the panoply of fast food joints, Mexican restaurants, pawn shops, there's nothing to see. The poverty level is 34.1 percent, per US census. The roadways are in overall, poor shape. Drivers are rude and peevish. I wouldn't recommend traveling at night, due to speeding & reckless driving. Motorcycles weave in and out of traffic at high speeds.
Inhabitants look upon newcomers with annoyance or fish-eyed stares. If there's money involved, their disposition gets a little better. We adopted a kitten off the street, near our home. We couldn't find a private practice veterinarian to spay her for less than $300 (!). We called all over the RGV, averages to spay: 300-600 dollars. Utterly ridiculous. Gee, I wonder why there's an epidemic of stray animals here?!
Goid luck in getting an appointment with a low cost spay/neuter Read More
