Review of Columbus, Ohio

Overcrowded, overpriced and high pollution.
Star Rating - 2/14/2023
We lived in Columbus from 2014-2022, originally from Denver work has taken us to Charlotte, NC, Austin and Atlanta for perspective. One of our biggest reasons for leaving Columbus was high crime, and sprawl. One of the first things you will notice about Columbus and Ohio in general are: preserving the environment are dead last. A lot of cities have "green belts", or areas of parks that circle the city to help with sound pollution and keep wildlife. If you've never been to Atlanta's greenbelt it is amazing and they continue to expand it (highly recommended). Even Charlotte and Austin (a million people) have protected their environments. Columbus has focused on building roads, and has run out of room for more roads, causing commute times to be unbearable. Compared to other cities of similar size, the quality of life here is not good, pollution, crime and sprawl are huge issues. For the cost of homes and rental rates in Columbus, you can live in many other cities that offer far more recreational opportunities, have far lower crime and pollution and much better quality of life. One of the only positives about the Columbus area would be job stability and growth, however if your health is important to you, I would steer clear of this concrete jungle.

I don't agree with this at all. I am actually from Atlanta. I lived in sandy springs. First of all, Atlanta is filthy outside of the very wealthy areas. The crime in Atlanta is absolutely terrifying. Columbus has a lower crime rate than even the average city in the United States. I feel VERY safe as a black man in Columbus. I have never felt safe in Atlanta and in my 10 years of being there. Got robbed at gunpoint 3 times. Atlanta traffic is horrific, the worst in the South and top 5 worst in the country. No matter what time or day it is. Its bumper to bumper. The people are mean, the food is gross, customer service is a joke. Columbus literally has no traffic tf are you even talking about. Columbus definitely has sprawl but are you suggesting Atlanta don't? Midtown and maybe few other areas are walkable in Atlanta but who wants to walk in that war zone. Columbus is cheap af. My Budget is 3k a month for rent due to the insane prices atl have. I could barely even find anything for 2k a month let alone 3k in Columbus. Very affordable. It has extremely walkable and beautiful communities. Great parks but obviously atl which is the city of trees gonna have better parks but it's a pain in ahh to get to them and park. Everything in atl is a hassle. Columbus have amazing parks. You can get anywhere in the city in less than 20 minutes. It takes hours to do anything in Atlanta. I can't even understand why you are lying like this. Public data even suggests you are wrong and the weather is better in Columbus. As the cloudy skies keep the wind cool and the sun away. Plus we get snow as any propee city should. I can't believe you've spread such false info. ATL is a horrible place to live. It's beautiful and have a lot to do. It's great to visit but you'll be miserable living there trying to do those things it offers. All these bad reviews are so inaccurate. I can't trust what you people say on this site for sure

This makes no sense, I've been living in Columbus since 2016. Sprawl is certainly an issue, but it has way less crime than all the cities you mentioned (except Austin, they have similar crime rate). I guess you never went to the Scioto mile greenway, or other great parks in the city. Road infrastructure is priority due to recent boom in population, but we could definitely use better public transit. It's not overcrowded, it's not polluted, and it's certainly not overpriced. These are statistical facts.
