beauty hides a dirty little secret

I have been here for three years. The people are great, the life by the lake is marvelous and the countryside is some of the most beautiful in the world. It is home to many Mennonite families who have the most beautiful farms I've ever seen. I was enchanted. Until, I learned that the Planning board of this town was planning to allow a Mennonite family to operate a puppy mill. Through this fiasco, I've learned that the town is happy to allow this "agricultural" business of up to 600 dogs in this mill. They seemed to have no problem with it. I have found out that what I thought were lovely, services oriented people, do these mills violating all ethical considerations. I have also noticed other animal cruelty unchecked in the area. Don't take what you see here at face value and later be heartbroken at the way they treat their animals- remember what Ghandi said about the way a group treats their animals is indicitave of their moral compass.
