Lafayette still has a small town atmosphere. It is a wonderful place to raise children. There is a strong sense of community. Unfotunately in recent years Lafayette has seen the impact of people moving into the city from Chicago. While this wouldn't necessarily be a negative. It is in large part due to the closing of HUD housing in Chicago. The biggest influence has been the increase in crime.
