"Prettiest Little City in Michigan"

It's hard to believe such a place exists in SE Michigan. So close to business centers, yet when you enter the city, you feel 1000 miles from hustle & bustle.
The people are the best part, everyone doing something to help the city or his neighbors, as you imagine a small town to be.
There are no sidewalks at all, just winding streets that everyone walks or skates on, meeting new friends as they go. The homes range from $million contemporaries right next to quaint old "Sears-Roebucks" and some are little more than expanded cottages...but all well-kept.
It's usually hard to buy a house here because nobody leaves and when the time comes, the home stays in the family. SL's small size means your vote really counts...and everyone has an opportunity to speak out at our monthly City Council meetings. As long as I live in MI, nothing could make me move from this place. Did I mention there's virtually no crime?
I'm lucky enough to live on the lake, but every Sylvan resident has access to our private parks and swimming beaches. Residents can also rent our new community center for parties, etc. at reasonable cost. Incidentally, the community center was VOTED ON, like every major city expense. People here do not let politicians run their lives.
Do I sound like I love Sylvan Lake? Well, I planned on staying in MI for a maximum of 3 years. That was 26 years ago.
