Beautiful small city - 2/4/2018
I grew up in Corning so it will always be special to me. There is no prettier area in the US than the Fingerlakes. That being said, my husband and I have chosen to retire to a lake in Alabama. Taxes have driven us away. $4000 a year for a $100,000 home is just ridiculous. Utilities are also outrageous. There are wonderful places and things to do in the area, people can seem rude if you are from the south, I prefer to say impatient. Most people are nice if you take the time to get to know them, unfortunately those who are rude are really rude and there is a nasty hierarchy in place in the schools and businesses. My family is there so I will always visit often, but I don't think I have ever felt as at home and welcomed as I have in Alabama.
