The Prince of Wales - Hyder Census Area stretches along the southeastern coastlines of both Prince Of Wales Island and Etolin Island covering an area over 4,000 square miles with an estimated population close to 5,500 people. The majority of these residents are descended from Indigenous tribes who have traditionally relied on subsistence fishing for their livelihoods but also take advantage of commercial fishing opportunities available in this area's waters packed with various fish species including salmon, herring and halibut among others. There are also diverse outdoor activities available here such as canoeing or kayaking through vast waterways flanked by snow-capped mountains or exploring majestic glaciers amidst a unique system combining saltwater tides and freshwater lakes.
