Prowers County is located in southeastern Colorado near Lamar with a population of 12,055 people occupying an area of 1560 square miles. It borders Bent County to the east, Baca and Las Animas Counties to the west, Kiowa County to the north and Oklahoma to the south. Prowers’ primary economic activity is agricultural production including wheat, corn, milo, alfalfa, sorghum, barley and forage crops. The county also offers activities such as hunting, fishing and camping at John Martin Reservoir State Park or attending rodeos like “Lamar Days” in summertime.
