The small town of Gardiner, Montana has a population of about 590 people, and is located in the beautiful Paradise Valley. The town is part of the Park County political district, which includes Livingston, Emigrant, Chico Hot Springs and the area surrounding Yellowstone National Park. As such, this rural community is subject to different regulations than larger cities and towns in Montana. Gardiner has a mayor-council form of government with a five member council that meets monthly to discuss matters affecting the town. The mayor is elected from among the town's citizens every two years, and serves as the head of the local government. Each council member is also elected to serve for two year terms.
