The town was originally part of Luzerne County but became part of Columbia County when it was founded in 1813. \nThe town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1 km2), all of it land. It is located in the southern part of Columbia County, south of Bloomsburg, the county seat. \nU.S. Route 11 passes through the center of town, leading northeast 19 miles (31 km) to Hazleton and southwest 25 miles (40 km) to Selinsgrove. Pennsylvania Route 239 leads east from Benton 8 miles (13 km) to Berwick and west 16 miles (26 km) to Millville. Small metro area set in the valleys and rolling hills of the Mideast region.
